POVERTY- a micro finance strategy
Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with 26% of the countries population live below national poverty line of $2.80 AUD per day. In addition, child malnutrition rates are currently at 48%, in condition that is tied to the low social status of women in Bangladeshi society. While Bangladesh suffers from many problems such as poor infrastructure, political instability, corruption, and insufficient power supplies, the country's economy has grown 5-6% per year since 1996. However, Bangladesh still remains a poor and overpopulated. The World Bank announced in June 2013 that Bangladesh had reduced the number of people living in poverty from 63 million in 2000 to 46 million in 2010
SITUATIONIn this setting, it’s no wonder that this country has seen the birth of one of the most innovative anti-poverty strategy: microfinance, thanks to Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus now let’s us try to understand the different problems and solutions that have had an impact on poverty in Bangladesh.
The micro finance strategy aims to fund and empower people to start micro businesses so they can earn an income. The program also educates micro business owners on operating their business. The business supports a family and may even grow to employ others.
